FAQs
Can we depart from Sorrento instead of Naples?
Yes. Sorrento is a natural starting point for this itinerary given its proximity to both Capri and Positano. This can be confirmed at booking.
Is there time for lunch during the day?
A lunch stop can be arranged at a seaside restaurant accessible only by boat between Capri and Positano, or in Positano itself. Lunch is not included in the tour price and is paid directly at the restaurant.
Can we spend more time on Capri and less in Positano?
Yes. The balance between the two destinations is flexible and can be discussed before departure. The day can be weighted toward whichever place you prefer.
How is this itinerary different from the Amalfi Coast & Positano tour?
This itinerary starts with Capri and then continues to Positano. The Amalfi Coast tour focuses on the full stretch of the coastline. If Capri is a priority, this is the right choice. If you want more time exploring the coast and Amalfi, the other itinerary fits better.

Capri from the sea
The first part of the day belongs to Capri. The boat follows the island’s coastline at a slow pace, moving through sea caves carved into the limestone, past rock arches and hidden inlets, and out into the open water where the Faraglioni three limestone stacks rising directly from the sea come fully into view.
A swim stop here is one of the defining moments of the itinerary. The water around the Faraglioni is calm, clear, and completely sheltered from the open sea. Arriving by private boat means the choice of where and when to stop is entirely yours, with no timetable and no other group sharing the same water.
The Blue Grotto can be included when conditions allow. The skipper will advise on access and timing on the day.
For guests who want to dedicate a full day exclusively to Capri, our Capri itinerary covers the island in greater depth.
The passage toward Positano
Leaving Capri, the boat sets course along the coast toward Positano. This stretch of navigation is one of the most scenic in the Gulf, the Sorrento Peninsula rises to the north, the open Tyrrhenian Sea opens to the south, and the light in the afternoon changes the colors of the water in a way that makes the crossing feel like a transition between two different worlds.
As Positano comes into view ahead, the character of the day shifts. The drama of Capri gives way to something softer, a village that descends to the sea in layers, terracotta and white and bougainvillea, with the beach narrow at the bottom and the church dome catching the light from above.
Positano ashore
Arriving in Positano by boat is the way this place is meant to be approached. The view from the water, the full facade of the village rising above the beach, is the one that appears in every photograph, and it is better in person and from the right angle, which is always from the sea.
Once ashore, guests have complete freedom. The narrow streets, the linen boutiques, the artisan sandal shops, the ceramic terraces, and the viewpoints above the village are all reachable on foot within minutes. There is no schedule. When guests are ready to return, the boat is waiting.
Guests looking for a longer experience along the coast can also consider the Amalfi Coast & Positano itinerary, which extends the day through the full stretch of the coastline.
Practical information
Departures are available from Naples or Sorrento. The full-day format is the right choice for this itinerary both Capri and Positano deserve time, and the navigation between them is part of the experience rather than a transfer to be hurried.
Route, timing, and stops are confirmed in advance with the skipper and adjusted on the day based on sea conditions and weather. Marina fees may apply in Positano. For guests still choosing between boat options, our private boat charters page gives a full overview of the available fleet.
