Private Boat Tour: Capri & Sorrento

This itinerary combines two of the most distinctive destinations in the Gulf of Naples — Capri and Sorrento — into a single, well-balanced day by private boat. The two places are different in character: Capri is dramatic, vertical, and cinematic; Sorrento is quieter, more intimate, and rooted in a slower rhythm of life. Together they give a full picture of what the Gulf can offer in a single day on the water. Departures are from Naples. The day unfolds at a relaxed pace, shaped by sea conditions and the preferences of guests on board.

From Naples to Capri

The crossing from Naples toward Capri takes approximately one hour and is itself part of the experience. As the city falls behind and the Gulf opens up, the first outlines of the island appear ahead limestone cliffs rising sharply from the water, already distinct at a distance. Guests can settle on board, have a coffee, and let the pace of the day establish itself naturally before the coast comes into focus.

The approach by sea offers perspectives that no land-based visit can match. The cliffs close in as the boat rounds the island, and the scale of the coastline becomes fully clear only from the water.

Capri by sea: caves, Faraglioni, and swimming

Once around the island, the route follows Capri’s coastline at an unhurried pace. The boat passes sea caves carved into the limestone, emerges into open water beside the Faraglioni, and moves through stretches of coast that are accessible only from the sea. A swim stop here, in calm, clear water beneath the rock formations, is one of the most memorable moments of the day.

The Blue Grotto can be included when conditions allow. The itinerary stays flexible throughout, adapting to sea conditions and the rhythm that guests prefer.

For guests who want to dedicate a full day exclusively to Capri, our Capri itinerary covers the island in greater depth.

Sorrento from the water

Leaving Capri, the boat sets course toward Sorrento along a coastal route where the landscape changes register completely. The Sorrento Peninsula rises steeply above the water high cliffs, lemon groves visible along the upper terraces, and the town itself appearing gradually as a layer of white and ochre above the sea.

Arriving in Sorrento by boat gives a perspective that most visitors never see. Once ashore, guests can explore freely the narrow streets of the historic center, the terraces with views over the bay, the ceramic shops and the cafés. The time ashore is unscheduled. When guests are ready to return to the boat, the day continues toward Naples.

Practical information

Departures are from Naples. The full-day format is recommended for a complete experience across both destinations. The sequence, Naples, Capri, Sorrento, return, follows the natural geography of the Gulf and makes the day feel structured without being rigid.

Route, timing, and stops are confirmed in advance with the skipper and adjusted on the day based on sea conditions. Marina fees may apply at certain ports. For guests interested in the available fleet, our private boat charters page gives a full overview.

Optional Extension: Pompeii by Land and Sea

For guests who wish to enrich their day with a cultural experience, the itinerary can be extended to include a visit to Pompeii. After the coastal navigation, the skipper drops guests off at Marina di Stabia, where a private van is waiting to provide a comfortable transfer to the archaeological site.

This option allows you to combine a refined sea journey with one of the most important historical landmarks in the world, creating a seamless experience between sea and land. After the visit, transfers can be arranged according to your onward plans, ensuring continuity, comfort, and a well-balanced day.
