Private Boat Tour: Nerano & Capri

This itinerary is built around two places best experienced from the water: Nerano, a small village at the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula accessible only by boat, and Capri's southern coastline the dramatic side that most visitors never see. Departing from Naples or Sorrento, the day divides naturally between a slow lunch stop at sea and an afternoon around the island.

Nerano: lunch by the sea

Nerano sits at the base of a steep headland where the Sorrento Peninsula meets the open water. There is no harbor, no road access from the main coast, and no way to arrive except by boat. This is what makes it worth the journey.

The village is known throughout Italy for a single dish: spaghetti alle zucchine, a preparation developed here over decades by a handful of family-run restaurants whose tables sit directly above the water. Arriving by private boat, guests can anchor in the bay and go ashore at their own pace no reservations forced by ferry schedules, no rush. Lunch here is paid directly at the restaurant and is not included in the tour price, but it is the reason most guests choose this itinerary over any other.

Swimming stops and coastal navigation

Between Nerano and Capri, the navigation passes through some of the most beautiful and least crowded water in the Gulf. The coast at this point is largely undeveloped rocky headlands, small inlets, and the occasional fisherman. The skipper can suggest swimming stops where the water is clear and calm, in places that have no name and no crowd.

This stretch of the day has no fixed agenda. It is the breathing space between Nerano and the more structured experience around Capri.

Capri from the south

Approaching Capri from the south gives a different perspective of the island than the standard northern approach from Naples. The limestone cliffs here are taller and more dramatic, the caves deeper, and the Faraglioni appear from an angle that makes their scale fully clear. The boat moves slowly along this stretch, allowing time to take it in properly before choosing a swim stop or continuing around toward the more sheltered eastern side.

Depending on preferences, guests can go ashore for time in Capri town, stop at a seaside restaurant accessible only by boat, or remain on the water and continue cruising. The itinerary adapts at this point to whatever the day calls for.

For guests who want to dedicate a full day exclusively to Capri, the Capri itinerary covers the island in greater depth. For guests coming from the Amalfi Coast direction, the Amalfi Coast & Positano tour offers a full coastal day as an alternative.

Practical information

Departures are from Naples or Sorrento. The full-day format is recommended Nerano deserves time, and the navigation toward Capri is not something to rush. Half-day options are possible but will require choosing between the two destinations.

Route, timing, and stops are confirmed in advance with the skipper and adjusted on the day based on sea conditions. For guests still choosing between boat options, our private boat charters page gives a full overview of the available fleet.

Optional Extension: Pompeii by Land and Sea

For guests who wish to enrich their day with a cultural experience, the itinerary can be extended to include a visit to Pompeii. After the coastal navigation, the skipper drops guests off at Marina di Stabia, where a private van is waiting to provide a comfortable transfer to the archaeological site.

This option allows you to combine a refined sea journey with one of the most important historical landmarks in the world, creating a seamless experience between sea and land. After the visit, transfers can be arranged according to your onward plans, ensuring continuity, comfort, and a well-balanced day.
